History and Purpose

The ISU Cinema Society was founded in the fall of 2000 to serve ISU and the community at large in studying the aesthetics and politics of cinema. While the group is dedicated to examining all kinds of cinema, it focuses on films and videos that would most likely otherwise go unseen: the avant-garde, foreign, independent, and underground. The initial idea for the society came from Astria Suparak's Pratt film series. Michael Benton and Adam Jones served as coordinators. William Barker took over Michael's position in fall 2002.
